Departing from Agrigento with your driver, you will head east to the UNESCO heritage Villa Romana del Casale. The journey will take about an hour and a half approximately. The remains of what was once a Roman villa now contain some of the most impressive and intact Roman mosaics in the world. Preserved under a landslide of mud for over 700 years, the villa contains the remains of over 50 mosaic-floored rooms, with the tiled area covering some 3,535 sq m (38,000 sq ft). Reopened after extensive restoration in 2012, the villa is one of Sicily’s premiere sites. Following your tour, you will enjoy lunch at one of the local family-run restaurants, about a five-minute drive away. Your lunch will consist of typical Sicilian starters, such as cheese, salami and olives, as well as your choice between two different types of Sicilian pasta and finishing with the dessert of the day.
